Help! My yogurt says no added sugar but lists sugar as an ingredient?

Hey fellow health-conscious folks! I'm trying to find a good yogurt option for myself that's low in added sugars but not super high in protein. I came across this vanilla yogurt that has me confused. The nutrition label says 0g added sugars, but then sugar is listed right there in the ingredients! How is this possible? The label breaks down like this: Total Carbs: 14g Dietary Fiber: 0g Total Sugars: 10g Added Sugars: 0g But the ingredients include 'cultured pasteurized grade A nonfat milk, modified food starch, SUGAR, natural flavor, sucralose, vanilla extract' plus some vitamins. Can anyone explain how they can include sugar but claim zero added sugar? I'm trying to make good choices here and this is throwing me for a loop!

Natural milk sugars (lactose) are present in yogurt, which explains the total sugars. The listed sugar might be minimal, used for culturing. However, the presence of sucralose (artificial sweetener) is concerning. I'd opt for plain yogurt and add fresh fruit instead.

Natural milk contains lactose, a type of sugar. The "sugar" listed in ingredients might be referring to this naturally occurring sugar, not added sugar. However, the presence of sucralose (artificial sweetener) is concerning. Consider plain yogurt and adding your own fruit for flavor instead.
