Struggling with lifelong sleep issues - need advice

Hi everyone, I'm really hoping some of you might have suggestions for my ongoing sleep problems. I've dealt with insomnia for as long as I can remember - even back in elementary school, I'd be lying awake until 1 or 2 AM unable to fall asleep. Now at 32, it's gotten even worse. Most nights I'm up until 4 or 5 AM, which is wreaking havoc on my health and job performance. I've tried melatonin supplements but they don't seem to help much. Exercise doesn't make a difference either. It feels like my brain just won't shut off at night. Has anyone dealt with severe chronic insomnia like this? I'm desperate for solutions beyond just medication. Any advice or tips that have worked for others would be so appreciated. This sleep deprivation is seriously impacting my quality of life and I'm not sure where else to turn. Thank you all in advance for any help!

Have you tried creating a calming bedtime routine? I find chamomile tea, gentle stretching, and nature sounds help quiet my mind. Also, limit screen time before bed and try journaling to release racing thoughts. Consistent sleep/wake times are crucial too!

Have you tried cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I)? It's been shown to be highly effective for chronic insomnia. Also, establishing a consistent bedtime routine and avoiding screens before bed can make a big difference. Hang in there!
