Integrating yoga and strength training into my weekly routine - advice needed!
Hey everyone! I'm looking to get back into a consistent yoga practice while also maintaining my strength training. I've done yoga on and off for years but want to focus on improving my inversions, especially headstands. I also want to keep up my gym work for overall fitness.
I used an AI assistant to help draft a weekly plan combining yoga and strength training. What do you think of this routine? Any suggestions for modifications?
Monday - Yoga Focus: Inversion Practice
- Headstand prep against wall - 3x30-60s
- Supported headstand holds - 3-5 reps
- Downward dog to dolphin transitions - 3x8-10
- Chaturanga pushups - 3x8
- Core: Boat pose + Plank holds - 3 rounds
Tuesday - Lower Body Strength (Gym)
- Squats
- Lunges
- Calf raises
- Optional: Brief meditation (5-10 min)
Wednesday - Yoga Flow + Upper Body
- Sun salutations A & B (10 min)
- Warrior series
- Crow pose attempts - 4x3
- Pushups - 3x8-10
- Core: Bicycle crunches - 3x12-15
Thursday - Upper Body Strength (Gym)
- Bench press
- Rows
- Shoulder presses
- Optional: Brief pranayama practice
Friday - Mixed Yoga Practice
Headstand practice (wall or freestanding) - 5-10 mins
- Vinyasa flow (15-20 min)
- Arm balances exploration
- Yin poses for hips/shoulders
- Final relaxation
Saturday and Sunday - Rest & Light Activity
