Incorporating animals into my mindfulness practice
As someone deeply committed to holistic wellness, I've recently adapted my loving-kindness meditation to include more animal recipients. While I don't have pets, I make an effort to direct 50% of my compassionate thoughts towards animals - from a neighbor's cat I've seen photos of to wild birds in my area.
For the 'challenging individual' part of the practice, I may focus on an insect that makes me uncomfortable. This approach helps me expand my circle of compassion and overcome my human-centric biases. It aligns with my belief in the interconnectedness of all beings and their right to wellbeing.
I'm curious if others on this wellness journey have experimented with including animals in their mindfulness or compassion practices. How has it impacted your overall sense of connection and wellbeing?
