Prescribed ADHD meds vs OTC supplements?

Hey everyone, I've been struggling with focus and concentration lately and think I might have ADHD. I talked to my doctor about getting evaluated and possibly trying medication, but my mom is really against prescription ADHD meds. She says they contain stimulants that are addictive and will lead to drug abuse. Instead, she wants me to only use OTC supplements and "natural remedies" for ADHD. I've done some research online and most reputable sources seem to recommend working with a doctor and potentially using prescribed medication if needed. The OTC supplements don't seem to have much scientific evidence behind them. I'm honestly not sure what to do. I want to respect my mom's concerns, but I also want to get proper treatment if I do have ADHD. Has anyone here had experience with both prescription meds and OTC options for ADHD? What worked best for you? Any advice on how to talk to my mom about this? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Prescribed ADHD medications can be very effective when used under medical supervision. While OTC supplements may help some, they're not FDA-approved for ADHD treatment. Talk to your doctor about your concerns and explore all options together. Your health should be the priority.
