How can I take NAC supplement without swallowing large capsules?

Hi everyone, I recently bought some NAC supplements to help with my chronic sinus issues, but the capsules are huge and I have trouble swallowing pills. I'm worried about them getting stuck in my throat. Does anyone know if it's safe to open the capsules and mix the powder with water or applesauce? I'd hate to waste the supplements, but I can't take them as-is. Any advice on alternative ways to take NAC would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help.
