Anxiety after past synthetic cannabis use - will medication help?

Hi everyone, I'm Freda. I've been struggling with anxiety and sleep issues for a while now, and I'm wondering if medication might help. I'm really hesitant about taking meds, but my symptoms seem to be getting worse. I'm experiencing dissociation, questioning if I'm awake or dreaming, and having trouble sleeping. My therapist has been recommending medication, but I've been putting it off hoping things would improve on their own. A bit of background - about 14 years ago when I was 19, I smoked synthetic cannabis (spice) and had a terrible panic attack. That triggered some anxiety issues, but I managed to cope for years. Then in May 2025, I had another major panic attack and my anxiety has been much worse ever since. I'm curious if anyone has experience with anxiety medication helping after synthetic cannabis use in the past? I'm scared to try meds but also desperate for some relief. Any insights would be really appreciated!

Medication can be a game-changer for anxiety, especially when combined with therapy. I was hesitant too, but it really helped me regain control. Start with a low dose and be patient. It's worth trying if your symptoms are impacting your quality of life.
