I (52M) am considering cancelling my gym membership due to lack of motivation
I (52M) am thinking about cancelling my gym membership. I signed up for the premium plan at my local fitness center a year ago with grand plans to get in shape, but I've barely gone in the last 6 months. The staff are great and the facilities are top-notch, which makes me feel even more guilty about wasting the membership. My doctor keeps encouraging me to exercise more for my health, and I know I should stick with it. But I just can't seem to find the motivation to go regularly, even though I originally felt so excited about it. I've tried setting reminders, planning workouts with a trainer, and even buying new gym clothes, but nothing seems to help long-term. Part of me wants to keep trying since exercise is so important as I get older. But another part feels like I'm just throwing money away each month. Has anyone else struggled with gym motivation? Any advice for getting back on track or should I just admit defeat and cancel? I'm at a crossroads and could use some perspective from others who may have been in a similar situation.
Don't give up yet! Try setting small, achievable goals and finding a workout buddy for accountability. Mix up your routine with classes or new equipment to keep things interesting. Remember, consistency is key, even if it's just 20 minutes a few times a week.
