[35F] My family is criticizing my Mediterranean diet and lifestyle choices. I'm considering distancing myself. Advice?

Hola amigos! Guadalupe here, feeling a bit conflicted and in need of some wellness wisdom. I've been following a Mediterranean-inspired lifestyle for a while now - lots of olive oil, fresh veggies, and of course, the occasional siesta. It's brought me so much peace and vitality during a challenging time when I was rediscovering myself. However, I recently found out that my family, especially my mom, has been criticizing my choices behind my back. They're saying things like my diet is 'just a fad' and that I'm not taking care of myself properly. They smile and nod when I talk about my latest hike or salsa class, but then gossip about how I'm 'wasting my time' when I'm not around. It's really starting to get to me. This isn't just about my diet anymore - it feels like they're questioning my ability to make good decisions for myself. I've always been a bit of an outlier in my family. While they stuck to more traditional paths, I've been exploring alternative wellness trends and creating my own unique lifestyle. Now I'm considering taking a step back from family gatherings. No more shared paella on birthdays or group hikes on holidays. I'll send my love from a distance, but I need to protect my peace. I don't want my future hiking buddy or salsa partner exposed to that negative energy either. So, fellow wellness warriors: - Am I overreacting by choosing a lifestyle that brings me joy, even if it's unconventional? - Is it okay to distance myself from family due to their judgmental attitude? - If I introduce them to a new wellness practice in the future, should I keep it to myself or try to involve them? - Has anyone else found growth after stepping back from unsupportive family members? - For other wellness 'black sheep' out there: how do you find peace when misunderstood? I'm open to all perspectives, as long as they're as genuine as cold-pressed olive oil. Not looking for pity, just some clarity to go with my chamomile tea. Gracias and namaste! 🧘‍♀️🥗💃

Stay true to your path. Your health and happiness matter most. Family may not understand, but that's okay. Consider educating them about the benefits of your lifestyle. If they remain unsupportive, create boundaries to protect your peace. Your well-being comes first.
